Download Miasma Desert Complex SE v1.0 [Server Edition] (23,485,317 bytes)
We've had some complaints that the package was too big (never thought I'd say that). We've optimized some textures, and that's about it. This is the server edition which is ~63MB instead of ~100MB with the regular edition. That way it is easier to download in the game situation.

File Name: Miasma Desert Complex
Author: Jason Scott, Ryan Jones
Version Number: 1.0
Release Date: 6/6/2004
--------------------------------------------------
Description of File:
Miasma Industries specializes in ore detection, extraction,
and refinement. They utilize specialized unmanned autonomous
refinement stations that they build and drop on systems all
over the galaxy. One such station that resides on the
desert planet of SRX-9152 lost power to its uplink beacon
and has been overtaken by native nomads. These nomads
started an Unreal Tournament type game ladder on the complex
and ran a moderately popular business for a few months. Word
of the nomad tournament traveled to the highest authorities
within Liandri Industries. Liandri, a chief rival to Miasma
in Ore location and refinement, saw an opportunity to gain
an even greater foothold on the ore market by buying rights
to the SRX-9152 Desert Complex and use it as an exclusive
location in the current season of Unreal Tournament. This
move would serve to create distrust in Miasma's ability to
oversee its business, and would extend the Unreal Tournament
to yet another, soon-to-be, popular location.
The Complex itself is a large extraction/refinement facility
that uses laser/electricity based machinery. The facility
is unmanned, however, has many corridors, elevators and
platforms for the players to navigate. The halls are tight,
the action is fast, and the games are hardcore, making for
an entertaining experience.
This location is somewhat unique due to the atmospheric
anomalies of planet SRX-9152. The planet has unusual
gravitational pull. From 0-40 feet from the surface there
is greater than normal earth gravity, then from 40-80 feet
there is normal earth gravity, and finally from 80-180 feet
there is lowered gravity. Anything above that will ascend
into orbit.
This gravity makes for a game experience the players will
have to get used to. It also makes for one very interesting
and deadly trap. The Miasma Desert Complex puts off a noxious
green gas as a by-product of the refinement process. This gas
is actually heavier than the air so it is released underneath
the complex which sits on stilts above. The valley around the
facility makes it nearly impossible for the gas to dissipate,
so anyone who makes the mistake of falling off of the complex
will be instantly vaporized by the highly dangerous gas below.

Side Notes:
This map has been completely created by Jason Scott
and Ryan Jones. It is a project that started as a
class assignment, and has grown into a fully immersive
environment for UT2K4. We hope everyone enjoys playing
the map as much as we enjoyed making it.
This map is free to distribute, but we ask that you
contact either of us asking for permission to place
the map on your server or to reuse any of the custom
content within any of our texture/static mesh/music
files.
--------------------------------------------------
Bugs/Errors:
No real errors to speak of. The bots play the whole map,
including going to the sniper nest and redeemer location.
For best results with bots, play the map at at least
"Adept" bot skill level, and enable translocator usage as
it helps the bots to be smart and go for all of the
powerups that live in normally hard to reach locations.
